Calgary arts entertainment and fun

Who says there's no Calgary arts entertainment and such? This city is loaded with talent and if you are in the right place at the right time, you may just find it. Just grab a city map.

Calgary Festivals

Here are some noteworthy situations.

Stampede and Spruce Meadows

The first half of July.
This is a time of year when the Calgary arts entertainment scene reaches its peak.

These two, often simultaneous, events bring hoards of visitors to our fair city. They spend a lot of time at these sites and look elsewhere for fun at afterwards.

Fortunately there is a good supply of this kind of fun at this time. Bands and other performing acts all around, playing bars and other events, including private barbeques, corporate party entertainment and so forth.

And don't forget the breakfasts. They're another essential part of this great big party, y'all.

CaribFest

See the culture of the folks from this tropical part of the world. Steel Bands, music, street performers and all the different foods. 1-800-661-1678 to find more about Carifest and all Prince's Island Calgary arts entertainment and happenings.

Folk Fest

Last week of July. See great old recording acts live, plus some new and exciting ones. Good times entertainment. Prince's Island.

Other such events include the Calgary Fringe, the Reggae Festival, and the Lilac Festival.

Calgary Stampeders

Major Canadian Football League action. See them at McMahon Stadium, then catch some nightlife after the game.

Calgary Flames

This is what winter is about in Canada.

Red Mile Pictures

Get to the Pengrowth Saddledome to cheer on the home team. All the horses in town and there is only one with flaming nostrils. If you love NHL action, Jarome Iginla or Harvey the Hound, this is where you'll see 'em.

CPO

If high society is more your style,
head on over to the Jack Singer Concert Hall for the Performing Arts and take in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Calgary arts entertainment at its finest. They've been around 50 years now. Must be doing something right.

SAIT, U of C, Mount Royal College

These are the three largest post-secondary institutions in Calgary. They all offer a variety of sports and entertainment opportunities for their students, which means that near their campuses you'll find interesting things to do.

Mount Royal, by the way, is well known for their music program.

Kananaskis

Get outta town. This is the place if you like to do outdoors. Hike Bike Ski. Whatever suits you. You'll find various settlements in this backcountry with entertainment, or, it's a relatively short drive back to the city for the evening. If the kids are with you, there's also Calaway Park out this way.

One yellow rabbit theatre

205 8 Ave. Live theatre your thing? See some strange things, funny things. Puppet death scenes. This could be your kinda fun.

Lunchbox Theatre

Bow Valley Square. Short productions make your lunch hour something to really look forward to. A highlight of the Calgary arts entertainment setting.
