Google Yahoo Map Quest

Anyone who has ever gone on vacation before the days of
Yahoo Map Quest
or Google Maps will appreciate THIS stuff.

Years ago you had to take along a Rand McNally Atlas and have the wife or whoever wasn't driving navigate. They would say "turn right" but not where to turn, right? If there happened to be construction or some obstacle in the way, it would take a complete rerouting to get you where you need to go. Sometimes it would take two hours to make a one-hour trip. Add to this, the kids asking "are we there yet?" and arguing in the backseat and…. You get the idea. Traveling became a burden instead of a pleasure. The introduction of a website called MapQuest revolutionized how we get from point A to point B dramatically. Yahoo! Maps can also take you from here to there with no hitches or distractions. All you had to know was a starting address and an ending address. Well, let's hit up Yahoo! Maps to find the dopest route. I prefer MapQuest. (That's a good one, too.) Google maps is the best. True that. (Double true!) ~Lyrics from "Lazy Sunday" "The Chronic of Narnia" featuring Saturday Night Live comedians Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg. See the video here.
Here's one user's experience. I personally used that service on a trip to St. Louis a few years ago and let me tell you, it was wonderful! I got to the front door of the hotel a full 30 minutes sooner than the directions said.
Why web mapping?
The point is that online mapping services do work, but not only for long trips. Now they have gotten so good that in some areas, things like traffic, construction and accidents are marked out on the constantly updated map image.Along the way, other companies have copied this idea and now several reliable services do it for you. Among these are Google Maps and Yahoo! Maps. Both have basic mapping services similar to MapQuest with some added features. Yahoo Map Quest and Google Maps all work rather well. These services overlay local traffic patterns, weather alerts and accidents and long-term construction hazards, and they provide driving map directions. This makes them perfect for finding local attractions in Calgary Alberta, restaurants and such when you aren't really sure where they are or how to there. For instance, you are staying at a hotel in Calgary or any city you have never been to before and want pizza. You don't really wish to have it delivered to your hotel room, but rather want to go out, sit inside somewhere and dine.

What’s a quick solution? You could hop on to the Net, hit Google Maps, Yahoo Map Quest or whatever you choose and get directions from your hotel to the restaurant of your choice. BAM! You're there!Maybe you're in on
business
and running late for a meeting and want to avoid gridlock. Guess where you could find that information in about 45 seconds? You got it! Pick a map service. Important features to mention here include the imaging to see. You can zoom in or out, pan left or right (east-west) or even up and down (north-south). Select the actual map image as a regular atlas-type map, a satellite photo or a combination of the two. With the zoom-in, you can get to street level and find familiar landmarks. To get this to work for you, all you need to know is where you are and where you're going. Yahoo Map Quest or Google Maps will do the rest. Happy travels!
